Mastering the Art of Precision

An Interview with Fernando Sainz of Sainz Designs

Few professionals embody craftsmanship and dedication like Fernando Sainz, founder of Sainz Designs. With over 30 years in the car protection and customization industry, he’s built a reputation for excellence that’s recognized far beyond his Staten Island workshop.

From Puerto Rico to New York

A Journey of Growth

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Fernando began his career at just 14 years old, learning window tinting through daily hands-on experience. Over the years, he expanded his expertise into paint protection film (PPF) and vehicle wraps, steadily mastering each skill.

“I opened my first business in Puerto Rico under the name Sainz D’ Sainz,” Fernando recalls. “When I moved to New York in 2012, I continued my brand as Sainz Designs, bringing the same discipline and craftsmanship to a new audience.”

Every Project Is a Favorite

When asked about his favorite project, Fernando doesn’t pick just one.

“Every project has the potential to be a favorite,” he explains. “Each job challenges me differently—some push my technical limits, while others inspire more creativity. That’s what makes this craft rewarding. Every project becomes a favorite in its own way.”

Working in Staten Island has given Fernando a new perspective on his craft. “Customers here appreciate quality and dedication,” he says. “Compared to Puerto Rico, New York’s pace is faster and expectations are higher, which has helped me grow both personally and professionally.”

A Day at Sainz Designs

A typical day starts early for Fernando and his wife Tani, who helps manage the shop.

“We prepare vehicles, organize materials, and go over the daily schedule,” he says. “We handle everything from tint jobs to consultations and walk-ins. Wraps and PPF installations are done by appointment, so no two days ever look the same.”

The Craft of Perfection

When it comes to window tinting and wraps, Fernando’s philosophy is simple: precision and patience.

“In tinting, achieving a flawless, factory-clean finish is the real challenge,” he says. “Every detail counts—maintaining a dust-free environment, controlling heat, and knowing exactly how each film behaves. The same goes for wraps and PPF. Perfection comes from repetition, discipline, and commitment to details.”

The Secret Behind Long-Lasting Results

Fernando believes that longevity begins long before the final heat application.

“Everything starts with proper prep work, clean surfaces, and high-quality materials,” he emphasizes. “Taking your time and avoiding shortcuts ensures a professional finish that lasts.”

Safety and Confidence

in Every Job

Sievert tools also contribute to safer installations for both the technician and the vehicle.

“They’re reliable and consistent,” says Fernando. “The controlled heat output minimizes the risk of damaging paint, trim, or sensitive surfaces. That kind of safety and precision is essential in my line of work.”

Advice To Next Generation

Dedication and patience are key.

“Practice every day, learn from others, and invest in professional tools. Stay humble and take pride in your work. If you’re passionate and consistent, you can build a strong career in this industry.”
